Come and hear from City of Launceston Team Leader Regulation, Peter Denholm, as he shares the story of the development and construction of Tasmania's first purpose-built mobile animal shelter for use in natural disasters.

The project is the recipient of the 2021 Companion Animal Rescue Awards Innovation Category award, as well as being the winner of the 2021 National Resilient Australia Awards, Local Government category for Tasmania.

Based in a 40-foot shipping container, the shelter can house the most at-risk animals in an emergency where they can be monitored and cared for by City of Launceston officers. Within a few hours mobile shelter can be on a truck and in transit to anywhere in the municipality, and indeed anywhere in the State.
